Best cards of 2019 - The Flower Challenge

It's time to look back on last year and the cards I've made and choose my favourite cards that I made for The Flower Challenge during 2019. I love all styles of cardmaking but tend to lean towards the clean and simple (or clean and layered, depending on the definition) style and I think my cards reflect that. And looking at the cards I chose, I think we could also play a game called 'Guess my favourite floral colour'... LOL!

On aika katsoa vuoden 2019 kortteja ja erityisesti The Flower Challenge -haasteeseen tekemiäni DT-kortteja. Valitsin neljä itselleni mieluisinta korttia ja ajattelin, että samalla voisimme pelata helppoa peliä nimeltään "Arvaa Milla lempiväri", ha ha! Linkit kortteihin löytyy yltä, mikäli haluat katsoa niitä lähemmin. Toivottavasti osallistut myös tuleviin haasteisiimme!

AAA Birthday #8: December - Joulukuu

It's December, time for a new challenge at AAA Birthday and our theme this time is 'Balloons & Banners'. As our Guest Designer, we have the talented Maaike joining us.

For my card, I used the cute little mouse with his balloon from the Penny Black set It's Your Day. I coloured the image with my watercolours and added some details in my white Gelly Roll pen. I also sponged some Distress Oxide ink to the edges of the image. I then die cut the frame using Penny Black's Stitched Loops die and adhered it in place. The banner is by Lawn Fawn, I stamped and die cut it before watercolouring it. I stamped the sentiment ('Congrats') with tiny alphabet stamps by Papertrey Ink onto the banner and adhered the banner in place. Lastly, I embellished the card with clear sequins.

Vuoden viimeinen haaste alkaa AAA Birthdayssä ja aiheena on Balloons & Banners eli ilmapallot ja bannerit. Omaan korttiini käytin suloista hiirtä ilmapalloineen Penny Blackin It's Your Day -setistä, väritin sen vesiväreillä ja lisäilin yksityiskohtia valkoisella Gelly Roll -kynällä. Reunoille mustetin Distress Oxide -mustetta. Kehykset stanssasin Penny Blackin Stitched Loops -stanssilla ja kiinnitin paikoilleen. Banneri on Lawn Fawnin, vesiväritin sen ja leimasin tekstin siihen Papertrey Inkin aakkosleimoilla.

The Flower Challenge #38

It's time for a new challenge at The Flower Challenge and this time we're asking you to add spots or stripes to your floral creation. This month we're being sponsored by Top Flight Stamps who are kindly giving our winner an e-gift card for $25. We also have a Guest Designer, the talented Tracy is joining us for the month of November.

For my card, I used this gorgeous peony cluster from Newton's Nook's Peony Dreams which I coloured with my Copic markers. I added spots in the form of patterned paper by Lili of the Valley. The sentiment stamp I used says 'Congrats'. I also rounded the bottom corners of the card with my corner chomper and added a few clear sequins to embellish the card.

AAA Birthday #7: November - Marraskuu

It's November and time for a new challenge at AAA Birthday. This time we're asking you to 'Include a Number' in your birthday card.

My Mum needed a birthday card for her friend who turned 75 and so I made her this card. The stamp I used is by Stampendous and it's called Timeless Rose. I coloured it with my watercolours and sponged some Distress Oxide ink on the edges of the panel. I then stamped my sentiment and added the numbers with peel-off stickers before matting the panel onto brown cardstock. I also used a piece of patterned paper behind the panel. Lastly, I embellished the card with some gold sequins.

On marraskuun haasteen aika AAA Birthdayssä ja tällä kertaa aiheena on numeron lisääminen, eli synttärikortti, jossa on numero jossain muodossa. 

Äitini tarvitsi synttärikortin ystävälleen, joka täytti 75 vuotta, joten tein tämän kortin hänelle. Leimakuvana käytin Stampendousin ihanaa Timeless Rose -leimaa, jonka väritin vesiväreillä. Paneelin reunat mustetin Distress Oxide -musteella, leimasin tekstileiman ja kerrostin paneelin ruskealle kartongille. Taustalle käytin kuviopaperia. Lopuksi koristelin kortin kultapaljeteilla.

The Flower Challenge #37: Reminder - Muistutus

We're half way through our October challenge at The Flower Challenge. The theme for October is CAS (clean and simple) and we're sponsored by CAS-ual Fridays Stamps who are kindly giving our winner a gift certificate of $25 to spend at the store. We also have a Guest Designer joining us, this time it is the talented Tina Magnusson.

For my card I used the Casual Comfort stamp set. I heat embossed the image and sponged some Distress Oxide ink around it. I then cut out the panel, die cut the window with Penny Black's Stitched Circles die and stamped the sentiment before adhering the panel onto cardbase.

AAA Birthday #6: October - Lokakuu

A new challenge starts at AAA Birthday today and this time we have a colour palette to inspire you (please see the photo below). So please make a birthday card in any style you wish using at least two colours you see in the photo. As our Guest Designer, we have the very talented Trina P.

 

I managed to use all the colours of the photo in my card! As my stamped image, I have a wreath called Golden Delight by Penny Black. I stamped it onto my cardbase and coloured with my Copics. I then cut a panel the size of the card front, die cut an opening to it using a die from the set Stitched Circles by Penny Black so that it fits around the stamped image, and adhered it in place. I heat embossed my sentiment on a strip of black cardstock and adhered it with foam adhesives. Lastly, I embellished my card with gold sequins.

AAA Birthday -haasteessa alkaa uusi haaste ja tällä kertaa meillä on väripaletti, josta olisi tarkoitus käyttää ainakin kahta väriä. Guest Designerina meillä on tällä kertaa Trina P.

Omassa kortissani onnistuin käyttämään kaikkia kuvan värejä! Leimakuvana käytin Penny Blackin Golden Delight -leimaa, jonka leimasin suoraan korttipohjaan ja väritin Copiceilla. Paneelin leikkasin valkoisesta kartongista ja siihen stanssasin aukon Penny Blackin Stitched Circles -setin stanssilla ja kiinnitin paneelin paikoilleen. Tekstileiman embossasin mustalle kartonginpalaselle ja kiinnitin paikalleen kohotarroilla. Lopuksi koristelin kortin paljeteilla.

The Flower Challenge #37

It's time for the October challenge at The Flower Challenge and this time we're asking you to make a CAS card - a clean and simple floral card. We're sponsored by CAS-ual Fridays Stamps who are very generously giving our winner a prize of $25 to spend in the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps online store. We also have a Guest Designer, the fabulously talented Tina Magnusson, joining us this month.

For my DT card, I used the Casual Comfort stamp set. I stamped the images on the upper part of the card, heat embossed them in white and then sponged some Distress Oxide ink in Tattered Rose on the panel. The sentiment comes from the same stamp set, I stamped it with Memento ink in Toffee Crunch. Lastly, I matted the panel onto brown cardstock and then onto my cardbase.

The Flower Challenge #36: Reminder - Muistutus

We're midway through our September challenge at The Flower Challenge with the theme of Anything Goes. This month we're sponsored by My Favorite Things who will kindly give our winners (yes, we'll have TWO winners!) a gift card of USD 25 each. As a Guest Designer, we have the incredibly talented Michele Ferguson.

I used the pretty Wildflowers set by MFT for my card. I stamped and die cut the images before colouring them with my Copic markers. I then cut my panel and die cut the openings to it as well as to a piece of craft foam that I adhered behind the panel. After I had adhered the panel to the card base, I adhered the flower and the leaf to their places with some liquid glue. Lastly, I heat embossed my sentiment from the Geometric Greenery set and adhered the sentiment strip in place.

The Flower Challenge #36

It's time for a new challenge at The Flower Challenge and this month it's an easy one - Anything Goes! And September is a fabulous month as we are sponsored by My Favorite Things who are so generous as to provide two prizes for our winners! Yes, two winners and each will get USD 25 gift card for MFT - how fab is that!? As our Guest Designer we have the funny and very talented Michele Ferguson.

For my DT card, I used the gorgeous Fresh-Cut Flowers Background by MFT, it's such a beautiful floral image. I heat embossed it in white and watercoloured the image. I then sponged some Distress Oxide ink in Antique Linen to the edges of the panel before die cutting and adhering the frame (it's die cut with MFT's Stitched Rectangle Scallop Edge Frame). I stamped my sentiment on the panel, it says 'Congrats'. I folded my card base out of pink card stock and stamped it with Typewriter Text Background stamp (although you can barely see it from behind the panel..) before adhering the panel to it. Lastly, I finished my card with a few clear sequins.

AAA Birthday: September - Syyskuu

It's September and we have a new challenge for you at AAA Birthday. This time we're asking you to 'Use a Stencil', so a birthday card in any style you prefer (CAS, cute, layered... you name it, we love it!) as long as you use a stencil is welcome. We also have a Guest Designer, Rachelle, joining us.

I went masculine again with my one layer card as I realised I need a birthday card for one of my nephews. I used a Papermania stamp that I heat embossed onto my cardbase with brown embossing powder. I then masked the stamped image and the edges of the card before sponging some Distress Oxide ink in Bundled Sage through a Prima stencil. After I removed the stencil and masking, I stamped my sentiment with Distress Oxide ink in Vintage Photo (the sentiment says 'Congratulations').

Syyskuu on alkanut ja AAA Birthdayssa alkaa uusi haaste. Tällä kertaa synttärikortissa tulisi käyttää sapluunaa. Kortin tyyli saa olla ihan mikä haluat, mutta sapluunaa siinä pitäisi käyttää. Itse tein taas maskuliinisen kortin, sillä tarvitsen synttärikortin veljenpojalleni. Embossasin Papermanian leiman ruskealla jauheella suoraan korttipohjaan, minkä jälkeen maskasin sen ja kortin reunat. Käytin Priman sapluunaa ja mustetin taustan kuvion Distress Oxide -musteella Bundled Sage. Lopuksi leimasin tekstileiman niin ikään Distress Oxide -musteella Vintage Photo.

The Flower Challenge #35: Reminder - Muistutus

We're midway through our August challenge at The Flower Challenge and the theme for August is 'Use Your Favourite Flower'. We're sponsored by Clearly Besotted who will kindly give our winner a gift certificate of 20 GBP! Our Guest Designer is the very talented Therese Calvird.

I love peonies and chose to use Peonies in Bloom set by Mama Elephant. I watercoloured the peonies and die cut them out. I added some gold splatters with my watercolour brush and Sheer Shimmer Spritz to my card base before arranging the flowers and the leaves. Lastly, I stamped my sentiment ('Congratulating You').

Yksi lempikukistani on pioni ja käytinkin korttiini Mama Elephantin Peonies in Bloom -settiä. Väritin kukat vesiväreillä ja stanssasin irti. Korttipohjaan roiskin vähän kultaa vesivärisiveltimellä ja Sheer Shimmer Spritzillä, minkä jälkeen laitoin kukat ja lehdet paikoilleen ja leimasin tekstileiman.

AAA Birthday: August - Elokuu

It's August and that means a new challenge is starting at AAA Birthday! In August, we're asking you to make birthday cards for boys. To help us inspire you, we have the talented Clarissa as our Guest Designer.

I decided to go very CAS with my card, no extra frills works for boys I think. I folded my card base out of watercolour cardstock and stamped my image - Gone Fishing by Lili of the Valley - on it, after which I watercoloured the image using Lukas Aquarell 1862 watercolours. The sentiment I used says 'Congratulations' in Finnish. As my only embellishment, I decided to use simple twine and tie it into a knot.

Oman korttini halusin pitää mahdollisimman simppelinä - se tuntuu olevan turvallisinta poikakorteissa.. ;) Taittelin korttipohjan vesivärikartongista, leimasin siihen leimakuvan (Lili of the Valley'n Gone Fishing) ja väritin sen Lukas Aquarell 1862 -vesiväreillä. Lisäksi leimasin korttiin tekstin ja koristeeksi laitoin nyöriä ihan vain solmulle.

The Flower Challenge #35

It's time for a new challenge at The Flower Challenge and in August we'd like to see you use your favourite flowers on your cards. We are sponsored by Clearly Besotted who are giving our winner an e-gift card worth 20 GBP! As our Guest Designer we have the fabulous Therese Calvird.

I have to say I love pretty much every flower there is but if I had to choose one favourite, it would be gerbera daisies. Such gorgeous, happy flowers! I don't have any gerbera daisy stamps, so I decided to use Sending Sunshine stamp by our sponsor, Clearly Besotted. I know these flowers are sunflowers but let's just pretend they are gerbera daisies now... I coloured the flowers with my Copics  (I know the centers of gerbera daisies are different, not yellow, but that went so beyond my talents I just made them yellow..) and stamped my sentiment - it's Finnish for Happy Birthday. I then matted the panel onto pink cardstock before adhering it onto my card base. No embellishments here as I thought the flowers were enough on their own.

Itse pidän aika lailla kaikista kukista, mutta jos lemppari pitää valita, niin gerbera on sellainen. Kuinka ollakaan, minulla ei ole gerbera-leimaa, joten päätin käyttää tätä Sending Sunshine -leimaa Clearly Besottedilta. Auringonkukkiahan nämä oikeasti ovat mutta leikitään, että ovat nyt gerberoita... Väritin kukat Copiceilla (oikeasti gerberoiden keskusta on erilainen, mutta väritin ne nyt keltaisiksi, koska taitoni eivät veny oikeiden gerberan keskustojen värittämiseen..) ja leimasin tekstileiman. Paneelin kerrostin pinkille kartongille ja kiinnitin korttipohjaan. Mitään koristeita en korttiin laittanut, kukat riittävät.

The Flower Challenge #34: Reminder - Muistutus

It's reminder time at The Flower Challenge as we are mid-way through July already. This time we're asking you to use "Pretty Pastels" in your floral creations and we have a prize for the winner - Uniko is kindly giving away a stamp set to our lucky winner! As a guest designer, we have the fabulous Michelle Lupton.

For my card, I used the stamp Beautiful Friend by Clearly Besotted, I coloured it with my Copics and die cut it using the matching die. For the background I sponged some Distress Oxide ink and lastly, I stamped my sentiment (it's in Finnish and means 'Congratulations').

Nyt vain visiteeraamaan The Flower Challenge -blogissa, jossa tarkemmat ohjeet osallistumiseen (aikaa 25.7. asti) ja inspiraatiokortit guest designerilta ja DT-porukalta.

The Flower Challenge #34

It's July (where has the time gone, honestly!?) and time for a new challenge at The Flower Challenge. This month our theme is 'Pretty Pastels' and we have a prize up for grabs! The sweet Bev from Uniko is offering our lucky winner a stamp set of their choice, how fab is that! As a Guest Designer, we have the talented Michelle Lupton joining us this month.

For my DT card, I used a stamp from the gorgeous Pure Florals: Peony set by Uniko. I coloured it with my Copics and fussy cut it out. For the background, I masked the bottom of the card and sponged Distress Oxide ink very lightly to the top section of my card base after which I stamped my sentiment (it's in Finnish and I find it difficult to translate, maybe (Wishing you) Happiness and Joy is the closest translation). I adhered the flower with foam adhesives and embellished the card with some clear sequins.

Heinäkuu tarkoittaa uutta haastetta The Flower Challengessä ja tällä kertaa teemana on pastellivärit. Voittajalle on luvassa leimasetti Unikolta! Guest Designerina meillä on mahtava Michelle Lupton.

Omaan korttiini käytin Unikon ihanaa Pure Florals: Peony -setin pionia, jonka väritin Copiceilla ja leikkasin irti. Taustan maskasin ja mustetin Distress Oxide -musteella, minkä jälkeen leimasin tekstileiman. Kukan kiinnitin tarrapaloilla koholle ja kortin koristelin paljeteilla.

AAA Birthday: July - Heinäkuu

It's a brand new month and a brand new challenge over at AAA Birthday! This month we're asking you to make birthday cards for the girls. We also have a Guest Designer, the fabulously talented Michelle Lupton, taking part this month. Please be sure to check out her beautiful card!

For my DT card, I used Tiny Townie Garden Girl Lilac by Stamping Bella. She's so dainty and pretty, perfect for a girl! I stamped her onto X-Press It blending card and coloured her with my Copics. I die cut the panel using Stitched Stackers die by Penny Black. I stamped my sentiment (it says 'Birthday Wishes' in Finnish) onto a strip of vellum and embellished it with a tiny tag and a bow of string. I used a piece of patterned paper for the background.

AAA Birthdayssä alkaa uusi haaste, teemana on synttärikortit tytöille. Omaan korttiini käytin Stamping Bellan ihanaa Tiny Townie Garden Girl Lilacia, jonka väritin Copiceilla. Paneelin stanssasin Penny Blackin Stitched Stackers -setin stanssilla ja tekstin leimasin vellumvyötteeseen, jonka koristelin pienellä tagilla ja rusetilla. Taustalle vähän kuviopaperia.

The Flower Challenge #33: Reminder - Muistutus

It's reminder time at The Flower Challenge. In June we're focusing on background stamping so get creating those backgrounds with floral images! We have the wonderful Deepti Malek as our guest designer and she is giving away one of the stamp sets she's designed to our lucky winner, how lovely is that?!

For my DT card, I chose to use Best Buds set by Paper Smooches. I stamped the background with one of the tiny flowers and decided to leave it uncoloured. For my main image, I chose the floral banner from the same set and coloured it with my Copics. I attached the panel onto dark grey cardstock and adhered the main image on it, adding a bit of gold twine behind it. Quick and easy! :)

The Flower Challengessä on muistutteluaika, tämän kuun haasteena on taustan tekeminen. Guest designerina meillä on Deepti Malek, joka antaa voittajallemme suunnittelemansa leimasetin palkinnoksi! 

Omaan korttiini käytin Paper Smoochesin Best Buds -settiä. Leimasin taustan pienellä kukkaleimalla ja päätin käyttää kukkabanneria "pääosassa". Taustan jätin värittämättä mutta kukkabannerin väritin Copiceilla. Kiinnitin kaiken paikoilleen ja lisäsin kultanarua bannerin taakse.

AAA Birthday Design Team!

I have such exciting news to share today! I am joining the AAA Birthday Design Team! Woop woop! I'm so happy to join the wonderful DT, this is going to be so very exciting! Thank you so much, ladies at AAA Birthday, for selecting me!

There's a new blog post up today at AAA Birthday that introduces some of the new DT members (including myself) with our DT cards for the current 'Watercolour' challenge. Below you'll see the card that I made. I think it's a very typical card of mine with a floral image (I love floral images!), watercolouring (perhaps my most favourite method of colouring), the colour pink (one of my fave colours), a frame (I seem to have a tendency to use frames in my cards a lot for some odd reason..), patterned papers (something I can't seem to make a card without), clear sequins (probably my most used embellishment) and leaning towards CAS style. So, in short, it's a very Milla-esque card! :)

And if you're interested in the details of the card, here comes: The stamped image is Mondo Sakura from Ellen Hutson coloured with Altenew watercolours. The frame is die cut with Penny Black dies from the set Stitched Stackers and the sentiment is by Penny Black also (from the set Snippets).

Mielestäni tämä kortti on hyvin tyypillinen minulle, siinä on kukkia, pinkkiä, kehykset, kuviopaperia, paljetteja ja tietysti vesiväritys. Leimakuva on Ellen Hutsonin Mondo Sakura Altenew'n vesiväreillä väritettynä ja kehykset on stanssattu Penny Blackin Stitched Stackers -setin stansseilla. Myös tekstileima on Pennyä, Snippets-setistä.

The Flower Challenge #33

We have a new challenge starting over at The Flower Challenge and this time we're focusing on background stamping. And there's a prize to be won too! Deepti Malik, who is our fabulous Guest Designer, will be giving one of her floral stamp sets for the winner.

For my DT card, I used a stamp from Altenew's Golden Garden set which I stamped randomly on white cardstock with Memento Toffee Crunch ink. I then die cut the panel with Penny Black's Swirly Stitches die and also die cut the sentiment with a Winnie & Walter die and adhered it to place. I matted the panel onto darker brown cardstock before adhering it to card base.

Omaan korttiini käytin leimaa Altenew'n Golden Garden -setistä. Leimasin sillä sinne tänne valkoiselle kartongille ja stanssasin sitten paneelin Penny Blackin Swirly Stitches -setin stanssilla. Tekstin stanssasin Winnie & Walterin stanssilla ja kiinnitin paikoilleen. Paneelin kiinnitin tummemman ruskealla kartongille ja sitten korttipohjaan.

The Flower Challenge #32: Reminder - Muistutus

We are midway through our challenge for the month of May over at The Flower Challenge and I'm here to remind you that you still have time to join in, please do! We are sponsored by the lovely Altenew who have kindly promised a stamp set for our winner - now that's worth playing for, right!? The challenge is to use embossing (either heat or dry) on your floral card.

For my card I chose to use the set Bamboo Rose by Altenew. I heat embossed the flowers with white embossing powder before colouring them with my Altenew watercolours. I also heat embossed my sentiment (it says 'Congrats' in Finnish) on a strip of light grey cardstock. I die cut the panel with a Penny Black die from the set Stitched Stackers and adhered it onto my card base before adhering the sentiment strip and the flowers onto it. I embellished my card with clear sequins.

Paneelin stanssasin Penny Blackin Stitched Stackers -setin stanssilla ja kiinnitin korttipohjaan, minkä jälkeen kiinnitin tekstisuikaleen ja kukat paikoilleen. Koristeina käytin paljetteja.
