Scrap a Happy Christmas - Christmas Cards out of Craft Scraps! Challenge

Marraskuun ensimmäinen tuo mukanaan uutta haastetta... Nimittäin Korttikarkurissa alkaa uusi joulukorttihaaste ja nyt olisi tarkoitus käydä ronskilla kädellä siellä sälälaatikolla. Haaste on nimeltään Scrap a Happy Christmas - Christmas Cards out of Craft Scraps ja Korttikarkurin Nonni kuvailee sitä näin:

Let's make Christmas cards using leftovers! If you are nothing like me your paper scraps box is overflowing and you might even have some odd, forgotten embellishments... Let's be creative getting rid of our stash and make Christmas cards out of old bits and pieces. All styles are welcome!

Joulukortti tulisi tehdä siis ylijäämävarastoja hyödyntäen (esim. ylijääneet paperinpalat, vanhat koristeet jne). Tyyli on taas vapaa ja haaste on käynnissä marraskuun alusta jouluaattoon, joten aikaa osallistua on reilusti. Ja kyllä, taas on palkintoakin luvassa :)

Oman korttini tein vanhoista jouluaiheisista kuviopapereista, joista leikkasin sentin levyisiä soiroja, jotka punoin tuollaiseen tilkkutäkkityyliin. Stanssasin valkoiseen kartonkiin tähden, jonka alle kiinnitin tilkkutäkkini ja sitten koko paneeli korttipohjaan kiinni tarrapaloilla. Tekstileimasin on FinnStamperin (ja se on muuten sama, jota käytin edellisen, edelleen käynnissä olevan, haasteen mallikorttiin) ja leimattu Hero Artsin Shadow Inkillä.

Mutta nyt kannattaa kyläillä Korttikarkurin puolella ihailemassa muiden DT:läisten kortteja ja osallistumassa itse haasteeseen. Askartelun iloa! :)

It's the 1st of November which means it's time for a new challenge... Korttikarkuri is once again hosting a Christmas card challenge and now we're looking for Christmas cards made using scraps. The challenge is called 'Scrap a Happy Christmas - Christmas Cards out of Craft Scraps' and this is what Nonni says about it: 

 Let's make Christmas cards using leftovers! If you are nothing like me your paper scraps box is overflowing and you might even have some odd, forgotten embellishments... Let's be creative getting rid of our stash and make Christmas cards out of old bits and pieces. All styles are welcome!

The challenge runs from November 1st until Christmas Eve, December 24th so you'll have plenty of time to participate :) And yes, there'll be a prize, too... :)

For my sample card I used some old Christmas themed patterned papers which I trimmed so that they were about 1 cm wide each. Then I simply weaved them together and adhered to a piece of scrap paper. I die cut a piece of white cardstock with a star die and attached the 'quilt' underneath it. I stamped the sentiment (it says 'Merry Christmas Happy New Year' and it's the same stamp I used in this sample card for the previous challenge) with Hero Arts Shadow Ink, and attached the whole panel on my card base with foam adhesives.

Mummoni täytti alkukuusta huimat 93 vuotta ja tein hänelle tällaisen kortin. Leimakuvana on iiihanat ruussut Papertrey Inkin The Sweet Life -setistä mutta kyllä niiden kanssa sai taistella ennen kuin leimaus onnistui. Ne leimataan siis kolmella eri leimalla, ensin alin kerros vaaleimmalla musteella, sitten "välikerros" hieman tummemmalla ja lopulta päälle varjostus tummimmalla musteella. Minullakin on jonkin verran musteita mutta se, että löysin kolme tälla tavalla toisiinsa sopivaa, oli äärimmäisen tuskaista. Sitten vielä se, että leimat sai kohdistettua oikein, ettei varjostukset menneetkin "aavistuksen" sivuun... huh huh, siinä sai vääntää. Mutta loppu hyvin, kaikki hyvin ja ruusut saatiin leimattua. Sitten vain hieman stanssausta ja paperien liimausta ja muutama paljetti korttiin ja se oli siinä. Koristelin kortin sisäpuolenkin samanlaisella (Papermanian) paperilla kuin mitä laitoin kortin kanteen, se teki kortista mukavan yhtenäisen.

My grandmother turned 93 earlier this month and I made her this card. The roses and leaves are stamped with 'The Sweet Life' set by Papertrey Ink. They caused a few problems for me starting with finding the right shades of ink colour and ending with placing the stamps correctly (the roses are stamped with three different stamps, the bottom layer, the middle layer and then lastly the shading) but finally, after 'a few' tries, I got it right. Then I just did some die cutting and adhered some patterned papers down and added a few sequins, and the card was done. The papers are by Papermania and I added similar paper to the inside of the card as I did on the cover, it tied the card together nicely.

Auto pojalle - A car for a boy

Tässä tulisi "veljenpoikakorteista" kolmas ja viimeinen. Tämä kortti menee 8 vuotta täyttävälle juhlijalle meiltä, aikaisemmat kortit (siis tämä ja tämä) menevät siis pojan isovanhemmilta ja isoisoäidiltä. Tämä on nyt ihan peruskortti sillä ajatuksella, että kaikki pojat tykkäävät autoista (ja sehän ei ole yleistys, eihän..?! ;) ) ja kortin leimakuvaksi valikoitui Papermanian auto, jonka väritin ProMarkereilla. Sitten vain kerrostusta kartongille ja paperille ja koristeeksi pari Spellbindersin stansseilla stanssattua tähteä. Siinäpä se.

Here's the last one of the three birthday cards I made for one of my nephews. We will be giving this card to the birthday boy, while the previous cards (this and this) I showed you are being given to him by his grandparents and his greatgrandmother. This just a very basic boy card with a picture of a car on it (all boys like cars, right..?! ;) ). I stamped the car with a Papermania stamp and coloured with ProMarkers. Then I just mounted it on some cardstock and some patterned paper and added a couple of stars as an embellishment. And that's it, really.

Hajuhernehiä - Sweet peas

Hajuherneitä olisi kortin muodossa tarjolla. Tämä hajuherneleima ja -stanssi on Papertrey Inkin, värittelin kuvan Twinkling H2O-vesiväreillä ja kiinnitin korttiin tarrapaloilla. Taustan vaalean paperin stanssasin Spellbindersin stanssilla (Curved Rectangles) ja mustetin Distress Inkillä. Teksti on puolikas leimaa ;) eli leimasin FinnStamperin Paljon onnea -leimasta vain tuon lopun. Taustapaperin valmistajaa en tiedä, olen sen jostain saanut, mutta senkin reunat mustetin DI:llä. Lopuksi muutama helmi korttiin ja se on siinä.

Don't you just love sweet peas? I love them and I love the stamp and die combo that I used here (they're by Papertrey Ink). I coloured the image with Twinkling H2Os and attached it to the card with foam adhesives. I die cut the cream coloured paper with a Spellbinders die ('Curved Rectangles') and applied some Distress Ink on its edges. I also inked the edges of the patterned paper with some Distress Ink. The sentiment says 'Congrats' in Finnish and is stamped with Hero Arts Shadow Ink 'Cup O Joe'. As finishing touches there are some half pearls.

Kotka - Eagle

Ja poikakortit jatkuvat, taas siis 8-vuotiskortti veljenpojalle 3/4 ;) En ole tuota kotkatirppaa kovin usein käyttänyt, joten nyt oli hyvä hetki käyttää sitä. Väritin ison tirpan Distress Markereilla ja lisäilin vähän valkoista geelikynää korostamaan sulkia. Paperin stanssasin muotoonsa Spellbindersin stanssilla ja alla olevan ruskean kartongin leikkasin käsin, että sain oikean kokoisen kehyksen. Numero 8 on stanssattu Timpan stanssilla. Taustan vihreään paperiin leimasin raidat Hero Artsin Large Canvas Stripes -taustaleimalla. Tästä tuli aika lailla tällainen peruskortti, en vain tiedä jäikö tuo tausta papereineen vähän turhan pliisuksi, olisiko kotka vaatinut taustakseen vähän tymäkämmät värit? No, tällä mennään kuitenkin.

Here's yet another birthday card for a boy, it's for my nephew #3 out of 4 ;) for his 8th birthday. I haven't used this eagle stamp that much so I thought it was a good time to use it now. I think the stamp is by Whiff of Joy but I'm not sure what it's called. Anyways, I coloured the big birdie with Distress Markers and added some highlights to his feathers with a white gel pen. I die cut the paper using a Spellbinders die and then I cut the brown cardstock behind it with my scissors in order to get a right sized frame. The number 8 is die cut with a Tim Holtz die. I stamped the green paper with the background stamp 'Large Canvas Stripes' by Hero Arts. I'm not sure if the background is a bit too wishy washy for the eagle, maybe he should have some stronger colours behind him? But it's too late to change that now so we'll just have to go with this ;)

Kiitos - Thank you

Aikaisemmin kesällä minulta pyydettiin kiitos-korttia ja tämän sain aikaan. Kortin tilaajiin kuului sekä suomalaisia että amerikansuomalaisia, joten siitä sain idean tuohon ovaalin sisältä näkyvään taustaan. Leimasin siis kahdella eri tekstileimalla (kiitos on FinnStamperin ja thank you Penny Blackin) paperille, en mitenkään erityisen tarkkaan symmetrisesti mutta niin että niiden väliin jäi sopivasti mutta ei liikaa tilaa ;) Tuon kermanvärisen kartongin kohokuvioin Hero Artsin/Sizzixin taskulla ja stanssasin siihen tuon ovaalin. Noiden kahden kerroksen väliin lisäsin pari kerrosta vellumia pehmentämään itsetehtyä taustaa. Kukkaset on stanssattu ja leimattu Papertrey Inkin Larger than Life -setin värkeillä ja "musteena" käytin Distress Markereita. Lisäksi pari nauhaa rusetille ja stanssattuun ympyrä-tagiin kiitos rub on -kirjaimilla.

Earlier this summer I was asked to make a thank you card and this is what I made. The group of people who asked me to make it included both Finns and Finnish Americans and this gave me the idea for the background you see peeking through the oval. I took two sentiment stamps, 'kiitos' ('thank you' in Finnish) and 'thank you' and stamped them repeatedly on a piece of cardstock. I did it quite freely and didn't try to make it too symmetrically. Then I dry embossed the cream cardstock with a Hero Arts/Sizzix embossing folder and die cut the oval on it. I added a couple of layers of vellum behind the oval opening to soften the stamped background. The flowers are die cut and stamped using Papertrey Ink's Larger than Life set and Distress Markers. The 'kiitos' on the round tag is written with rub on letters. As a finishing touch there's some ribbon and  a bow.

Ikkunakortti - Window card

Tämä kortti on tehty korttileirin mallikortin mukaan, sillä Kristina Wernerillä oli niin huippu korttimalli, että se piti tehdä itsekin :) Olen monta kertaa ihaillut kaikenlaisia ikkunakortteja mutta miettinyt samalla, mihin teksti kortin sisällä kirjoitetaan niin, ettei se näy ikkunasta, useimmat ikkunakortit kun jättävät suhteellisen vähän piilossa olevaa kirjoitustilaa. Mutta tässä mallissa ongelma on ratkaistu! :) Tässä on ylimääräinen "sivu" kortin sisällä, joka näkyy ikkunasta ja peittää samalla kokonaan kortin sen osan, johon kirjoitetaan. Kortin kanteen on siis stanssattu ympyrä, jossa on kohokuvioitu muovi, jonka läpi näkyy nuottipaperi, jonka päälle laitoin vielä vellumin hieman "rauhoittamaan" kuviota. Kukat ja lehti on leimattu ja stanssattu Papertrey Inkin leimoilla ja stansseilla, tekstileima on FinnStamperin. Lisänä hieman timantteja ja leipurinnyöriä. Käytin kortissa ekan viikon värejäkin: oranssi, pinkki, keltainen, minttu/turkoosi ja valkoinen. Lisäväriksi lisäsin neutraalin mustan.

Again, a card for the Summer Card Camp 2. This one is made after a sample card by Kristina Werner, I thought the card design was so genius that I wanted to make it myself, too. I've always loved window cards but I never really knew how to make a window card that wouldn't show the handwritten message on the inside of the card as most window cards leave very little space hidden for writing. Well, this card solves the problem as it is a three-part card! :) There's a middle section that shows through the window and that covers the inside of the card at the same time. Genius! :) So, I die cut the circle and added a piece of dry embossed acetate on it to make the window. I attached the notepaper/patterned paper on the inside and covered it with vellum to make the pattern a bit more subtle. The flowers and leaves are die cut and stamped with Papertrey Ink stamps and dies, the sentiment says 'congrats' and as further embellies there are some gems and a piece of baker's twine. Oh, and I used the colours of Week 1 on the card: orange, pink, yellow, mint green/turquoise and white. I added black as my neutral colour.

Lisää synttärikortteja - More birthday cards

Kolmaskin veljenpoikani juhlii synttäreitään keväällä/alkukesästä ja "perinteitä kunnioittaen" tein hänellekin kolme korttia. Vaihtelun vuoksi tein tämän ensimmäisen tagin muotoon, eli leikkasin tagin Tim Holtzin stanssilla ja päällystin October Afternoonin papereilla, washiteipillä, leimakuvalla (auto Papermanian, teksti FinnStamperin, muut Wycinankan). Lisäksi hieman mininiittejä ja narua.

My nephew #3 also has his birthday during spring/early summer and I made three cards for him as well. Although, this first one is actually a tag, I die cut it with a Tim Holtz die and used October Afternoon papers and some washi tapes to decorate it along with some stamping (the car is a stamp by Papermania, the sentiment is by FinnStamper and says 'congrats', other stamps used are by Wycinanka). To finish it off I used some tiny staples and some twine.

Tämä seuraava kortti on hyvin rankasti inspiroitunut eräästä mallikortista Pattern Play -kurssilta. Embossasin siihen Papertrey Inkin pyörän, johon laitoin napit renkaiksi. Reunustoille laitoin paperia ja washiteippiä ja tekstin leimasin paperi"aurinkoon". Lisäksi vain hieman valkoista enamel accentsia.

This next card is very heavily inspired by a card on the Pattern Play course that I took some time ago. I heat embossed the bike (by Papertrey Ink) with black embossing powder and added some buttons as wheels. I used some bits of paper and washi tape to further decorate the card and added some white enamel accents drops.

Tässä vaiheessa alkoi jo poikakortti-ideat loppua (näin käy aina... :/ ), joten kolmanneksi kortiksi tein ihan simppelin CAS-kortin, johon maskasin Tingtura Designin pilviä ja sateenkaaren, jotka väritin ProMarkereilla. Lisäksi vain onnitteluteksti leimaten.

By the card #3 I was already running out of ideas for boy cards (this always happens to me.... :/ ) so I decided to make a simple CAS card with some Tingtura Design stamps that I masked to form the little scene with clouds and the rainbow. Then I simply stamped the sentiment ('congrats').

Nyt on kevään synttärisumasta selvitty ja seuraava poikasynttärikortti tarvitaan vasta syksyllä. Josko sitä siihen mennessä ehtisi kehitellä taas jotain ideaa... Kiitos, kun käväisit ja kiitos, jos kommentoit! Aurinkoista keskiviikkoa! :)

Hän on kolme! - He is three!

...ollut jo hetken aikaa kylläkin, nimittäin meidän ihana esikoisemme täytti tuossa huhtikuun loppupuolella kokonaiset kolme vuotta (tähän kohtaan saa lisätä järkyttynyttä päivittelyä ajan kulumisesta... ja paljon!). Tein hänelle kolme korttia, yhden meiltä ja loput isovanhempien ja isoisoäidin annettavaksi. Ensin esittelyyn meiltä saatu kortti, jossa tietenkin on auto - mitä muuta pienen automiehen kortissa voi olla? Leima on siis Papermanian ja Distress Markereilla väritetty. Säteet taustalla on FinnStamperin leima, tekstileima Paperinauhan setistä ja paperit My Mind's Eyeta. Valmiin kortin koristuksiin ei kuulunut tuo kuvassa näkyvä post-it -lappu, se peittää pojan nimeä, jonka korttiin leimasin ;)

...and has been for a while already. Our gorgeous big boy, our firstborn, turned three at the end of April (and yes, I am still shocked - how can he be three already?!). I made three cards for his birthday, one from us and one for his grandparents to give to him and one for his greatgrandmother to give to him. This first card is from us and, of course, it has a car on it - he is such an enthusiastic carlover :) The stamped image is by Papermania and I coloured it with Distress Markers. The ray stamp behind the car is by FinnStamper and the sentiment says something like 'huuuge congrats'. And the piece of a post-it note that you can see on the photo is not an embellishment, it just covers his name that I stamped there and that I'm not willing to share (yes, I'm overcautious...).

Ja tältä kortti näyttää, kun se avataan. Kyseessä on siis ns. spiral pop-up -kortti, johon tein tuon spiraalin Sizzixin ruusustanssilla ja kiinnitin siihen kolme pientä autoleimakuvaa.

And this is what the card looks like when it's opened. It's a spiral pop-up card. I made the spiral with a Sizzix rose die and attached three little stamped cars to it.

Tämän kortin pojalle antoivat isovanhemmat. Tuon koalaleiman valmistajaa en tiedä, väritin sen kuitenkin Distress Markereilla. Tekstileima taitaa sekin olla Paperinauhan setistä ja paperit vanhoja October Afternooneja. Lisänä nappi.

This card was given to him by his grandparents. I stamped the three koalas (I don't know the manufacturer of the stamp, sorry) and coloured them with Distress Markers. The papers are by October Afternoon and the sentiment says something like 'have an amazingly fun birthday'.

Viimeisenä näytille isoisoäidin antama kortti (pojalla ja isoisoäidillään on muuten 90 vuotta ikäeroa :) ). Leimakuva on Art Journeyn, paperit Authentiqueta, lisänä numero Tim Holtzin stanssilla stanssattuna ja tuollaiset metallipidikkeet.

And lastly, this card was given to our son by his greatgrandmother (the age difference between her and our son is whopping 90 years! :) ). The rubber stamp I used is by Art Journey, it's from the Grunge set. The papers are by Authentique, the number is die cut with a Tim Holtz die and as embellies there are a couple of brads and those metal 'holders' (don't know what they're called really).

Ihanaa päivää sinulle - Have a lovely day

Tein tämän kortin Hero Artsin huhtikuun luonnoshaasteen perusteella mutta kuinka ollakaan myöhästyin deadlinesta. Höh! No, laitan kortin kuitenkin näytille (luonnos löytyy muuten linkin takaa). Stanssasin korttiin pienen aukon ja kiinnitin tuon kukkaneliön kortin sisäosaan tarrapaloilla niin, että kukkaneliö tulee hieman kortista "ulos". Leikkasin korttia sitten oikeasta reunasta hieman pienemmäksi, jotta se silti mahtuu kuoreen. Leimakuva on Hero Artsin Peeking Posies -setistä (blogiin asti ei ole tainnut vielä yhtäkään tämän setin leimoilla tehtyä korttia päätyä vaikka se onkin minulla jo jonkin aikaa ollut ja olen sillä korttejakin tehnyt, hassua), väritin sen Prismacoloreilla. Paperit ovat My Mind's Eyen, tekstileima FinnStamperin (oikeasti tuohon tekstileimaan kuuluu kehykset mutta olen ne julmasti leikannut pois ;D ) ja lisänä muutama Enamel Accentsilla tehty piste.

I  made this card based on the sketch provided in the Hero Arts April 2013 Challenge but did I miss the deadline for submission? Well, yes I did, dang it! I'll show the card anyway (if you want to see the sketch, just click the link). I die cut a little square opening to the card base and attached my stamped image on the inside of the card with foam adhesive so that it comes "out" of the card a little bit (I cut the card base a little smaller so that it'll still fit into an envelope). The stamped image is a flower from the Hero Arts' set 'Peeking Posies' and I coloured it with Prismacolour pencils. The patterned papers are by My Mind's Eye, the sentiment says 'Have a lovely day' in Finnish and as embellies of sorts there are a few dots made with white Enamel Accents.

No niin, synttärikorttisarja jatkuu. Tässä on toinen tekemäni kortti 12 vuotta täyttävälle veljenpojalleni, koitin tehdä siitä eri tyylisen kuin ensimmäisestä kortista. Tähän meni kuviopapereita, washiteippiä, chipboard-kuvioita, numeroleimasimet 7Gypsiesiltä ja tekstileima Papertrey Inkiltä. Aika simppeli kortti mutta toivottavasti mieluinen. Pahoittelut muuten luokattoman huonosta kuvasta, jostain syystä valo väisteli minua ja korttia kuvanottohetkellä :/

OK, here's another birthday card I made for my nephew who'll turn 12 later this month. I tried to make this as different as possible from the first card, I think I succeeded. For this card I used some patterned papers, some washitape, some chipboard embellishments, stamps by 7Gypsies (the number 12) and Papertrey Ink (the sentiment). I'm sorry about the bad photo, for some reason I wasn't able to catch a good light for taking it :/

Golffari - Golfer

Johan on, jo toinen postaus samalle päivälle! :) "Mies"-kortti tämäkin ja sopiva golffarille. Leimakuva on Papermanian ja väritetty Distress Markereilla. Paperit on Authentiquen, embossasin tuon vihreän paperin Papertrey Inkin impression platella - nyt kuvio täsmää tuon kuviopaperin ja golffarin sukkien kanssa. Tekstin leimasin Artemion aakkosilla, tosin huutomerkkiä ei setissä ollut, joten leimasin pikku-i:n väärinpäin, josko se menee huutomerkistä ;)

Well whaddaya know, it's my second post for today! :) Another male card and suitable for a golfer. The stamp I used is by Papermania, I coloured the image with Distress Markers. The papers are by Authentique, I ran the green paper through my Cuttlebug with a Papertrey Ink impression plate and now the pattern on it matches with the pattern on the paper next to it and on the golfer's socks. I stamped the text with alphabet stamps by Artemio, the set didn't include an exclamation mark so I used an 'i' upside down.

Haaste/Challenge:
