Taas art journalia ja taas keltaista - kun sitä jumittuu johonkin, niin sitä sitten jumittuu! :D Tähän meni akryylimaaleja, musteita, leimoja, washiteippiä ja outoa kieltä (olen hyvinkin varma, että sanaa beige voi käyttää myös verbinä...), joka kylläkin minulle sanoo paljon.
Another art journal page and yet again some yellow - I think I'm well and truly stuck! :D This page ate some acrylic paints, some inks, stamps, some washi tape and odd wording (I'm pretty confident you can use the word 'beige' as a verb... ha ha!). Odd wording or not, it speaks to me. It really does.

Kun nyt kerran päästiin vauhtiin, niin laitetaanpa lisää art journal -sivuja näytille. Tässäkin sivussa on "yllättäen" keltaista, tuntuu etten saa tarpeeksi keltaista vaikka uisin siinä, niin kovasti pelittää se väri nyt :) Olen jotenkin tykästynyt myös ihan tavalliseen lyijykynään, sen jälki näyttää kauniilta. Mutta siis kaikkinensa tässä on maaleja, suihkeita, sabluunoita, washiteippiä, lehdestä saksittua kuvaa ja sitä lyijykynää jne. Ja huonosti leimattu päivämäärä mutta antaa olla :)
Another art journal page to show you (I'm on a roll here! ;) ). I've used yellow on this page, too, for some reason I'm really loving yellow now, can't get enough of it. And another thing I'm liking at the moment is a basic pencil, love the look it gives. But all in all, this page has some acrylic paint, some spray inks, stencils, some washi tape, a magazine cut out, etc. And a badly stamped date but it can be, I won't try to make it look better.

Taas vaihteeksi art journalia. Ja taas vaihteeksi SODAliciouksen haaste :) Tällä kertaa aiheena on 'hidden' ja alla näkemykseni siitä. Tein sivun vaakatasoon A5-kokoiseen journaliin ja käytin siihen aika lailla kaikkea: gessoa, harsokangasta, Distress Inkiä, akryylimaaleja, sabluunoita (Crafter's Workshop), washiteippiä, erinäisiä leimoja (mm. Zettiology, Wycinanka, The Artistic Stamper), Dylusions ink sprayta jne. Eli väkerretty on :)
Here's another art journal page, for another SODAlicious challenge :) The theme is 'hidden' and this is my take on it. The journal I used is A5 in size and the page is landscape in orientation. There's a bit of everything on this page: gesso, cheese cloth, Distress Ink, acrylic paints, stencils (The Crafter's Workshop), washi tape, rubber stamps (Zettiology, Wycinanka, The Artistic Stamper among others), Dylusions ink spray, etc. Hope you like it! :)

Sivulle päätyi kuitenkin Dylusions-suihkeita, akryylimaalia, sabluunoita (sekä SODAliciouksen että Crafter's Workshopin), washiteippiä, Neocoloreita ja leimakuvia (Suzi Blu/Unity, Prima Marketing, Paperbag Studios). Mikäli käsialastani ei saa selvää ;) niin journaling sanoo 'I'm taking my ride with destiny, willing to play my part'. Kyseessä ei tosin ole minun aivoitukseni vaan sanoitusta eräästä biisistä.
The theme of SODAlicious' art journal challenge #23 is 'destiny' and this is my interpretation of it. The making of this spread took blood, sweat and tears - well, maybe not sweat or tears but blood, and lots of it! First I stabbed myself in the finger with my scissors and then I cut another finger with a plastic stencil. Ouch! It's a surprise there's no blood on the page itself... However, on the page there are some spray inks by Dylusions, some acrylic paint, stencils (both SODAlicious and The Crafter's Workshop), washi tape, Neocolor crayons and stamped images (Suzi Blu/Unity, Prima Marketing, Paperbag Studios). If you can't read my handwriting ;) the journaling says 'I'm taking my ride with destiny, willing to play my part' and no, they're not my wise words, they're lyrics from a song.

The SODAlicious art journal challenge #22 has the theme 'trapped' and below you can find my interpretation of it. To make the page I used some Distress Inks and Stains, old book pages, some washi tape, a stencil, and rubber stamps by Paper Artsy/Lynne Perrella, Paperbag Studios and Dylusions. There's no journaling on this page but maybe it's not always necessary?

Idea tähän art journal -sivuun tuli eräänä aamuyönä puoli neljän aikaan, kun keinuin keinutuolissa perheen pienimmän kanssa. Hän tuskaili vatsavaivojaan ja minä väsymystäni. Pitääkseni itseäni hereillä rupesin askartelemaan tätä sivua mielessäni ja sitten myöhemmin, kun pääsin ihan oikeasti askartelupöytäni ääreen, kokosin sivun mielikuva-askartelun pohjalta (tuplailo askartelusta: ensin mielessä ja sitten ihan oikeasti... ;D ). Niin, ja vetäkää liput salkoihin: otin ja piirsin ja vielä käytinkin piirtämäni kuvan! Kysyin muuten mieheltä, näyttääkö tuo minulta ja vastaus oli "ei, tolta puuttuu lasit". Eli muuten ilmeisesti kyllä.... Kuvittele siis tuohon lasit ja jos näet sen näköisen tyypin haahuilevan vastaan, ei muuta kuin käsi pystyyn, se olen minä! :D
The idea for this journal page came to me one morning at around 3.30 am as I was rocking in our rocking chair with the baby. He was awake with tummy ache after feeding and I was trying to stay awake, feeling dead tired. So to keep myself awake, I started to craft in my mind and 'made' this page and then later when I actually got to sit down at my craft table, I just assembled this page (it's the double joy of crafting: first crafting in my mind and then actually physically crafting ;D ). Oh, and three cheers for me: I drew a picture and even used it for this page! I asked hubby if it looked like me and he said "no, you have glasses". So apart from that, I guess that looks like me...

The other day I had a little time to play around in my craft room and I decided to make an art journal page for the SODAlicious art journal challenge where the theme is 'addiction'. Below you can see my interpretation of it. I used some ink spray, acrylic paints and Paper Artsy stamps to make the page.

Yleisön pyynnöstä ;) lisää journal-sivuja (tosin sitä mukaa, kun näitä laitan, vähenee lukijat tuosta oikean puolen laatikosta... Hmm...). Tuossa syksyn puolella sain postissa paksun kirjekuoren Englannista ja mietin jo kuumeisesti, mitä ihmettä olin tilannut ja unohtanut tilanneeni. No, homma selvisi, kun avasin kuoren: se oli arvontavoitto Craft Stamper -lehdestä, 8 settiä uusia Lynne Perrella -leimasimia! :) En ole ehtinyt niitä käyttää tätä ennen, mutta nyt tässä nuo tytsyt on yksi niistä uusista leimasimista. Muuten tässä sivussa on taas vähän sitä sun tätä: kuviopaperisuikaleita, paloja lehden ja kirjan sivuista, gessoa, washiteippiä, sabluunaa ja Distress Inkiä, Distress Stainia, leimasimia jne. Ja lopputulos on taas tällainen :)
Another page from my art journal. It seems that when I post these pages here, I lose a follower or two but I think I'll post them anyway... ;) Last autumn I received a big fat envelope from the UK in the post. Naturally, I thought what on earth had I ordered now and from where and how come I had forgotten about it. Well, when I opened the envelope it turned out that it was a giveaway prize from the Craft Stamper magazine: 8 sets of new Lynne Perrella rubber stamps! Wohoo! I haven't had the chance to use them until now, here the row of the ladies is one of the new stamps. Otherwise this page has a bit of this and a bit of that again: scraps of patterned paper, pieces of magazine and book pages, some gesso, some washi tape, a stencil used with some Distress Ink, some Distress Stain, rubber stamps, etc. And the outcome is as follows :)

Mikäs sen parempi tapa aloittaa uusi vuosi kuin katsoa taaksepäin, eikö? ;D Ajattelin minäkin tehdä tällaisen top10-postauksen ja hieman katsoa, mitä on tullut vuoden aikana tehtyä. Valikoin tähän ihan vain fiiliksellä ne tekeleet, jotka eniten miellyttivät itseäni ilman sen kummempia kriteereitä. Vertailin näitä aikaisempien vuosien top10-listoihin (top10 2011, top10 2010) enkä rehellisesti sanoen tiedä, onko sen kummempaa edistystä taidoissa tapahtunut. Jotenkin tuntuu, että tyylistä on tullut vähän yksinkertaisempi (karumpi?) - se, onko se hyvä vai huono juttu, on sitten eri asia... Pitäisiköhän tälle vuodelle ottaa tavoitteeksi kehittää taitoja enemmän ja opetella uusia tekniikoita..? Mutta tässä top10, joka taitaa olla aikajärjestyksessä vanhemmasta nuorempaan.
The best way to start a new year is to look back, right? LOL! Well, that's what I'll do now as I decided to blog my 'top10' cards of 2012 and see what I've been doing this year. For this review I chose cards and other makes just by the simple fact that there's something I like about them. I compared this list with previous years' lists (my top10 2011, my top10 2010) and honestly, I'm not sure if there's any improvement in my skills. Maybe one change is that my style has become a bit simpler, whether that is a good or a bad thing - I don't know. Maybe my crafty New Year's resolution could be to learn new techniques and to try and improve myself craft-wise..? Anyways, here comes the top10 of 2012.

Enpä ole sitten kesäisen mojon menettämisen jälkeen tehnyt sivuja art journaliin (paitsi tietenkin tämän sivun), alkuun ei huvittanut ja sittemmin tuli kaikenlaisia korttikiireitä. Mutta nyt joulukorttiähkyn vastapainoksi tein sivun ja kivaa oli :) Käytin tähän erinäisiä akryylimaaleja, musteita, spray inkejä, Prismacoloreita, Goldenin Glass Bead Geliä, leimasimia, sabloonaa, washi-teippiä (Teippitarhasta) jne. Ja jos joku ihmettelee, että missä kuplassa kellun, niin raskaushormonihuuruissahan minä... :)

(Well, except for this page) But that changed over the weekend as I made a page in my brand new journal (a gorgeous Derwent journal with thick pages and just the right size - love!). I got fed up with making Christmas cards so this gave me a welcome break :) For this page, I used various acrylic paints, inks, spray inks, Prismacolor pens, Glass Bead Gel by Golden, rubber stamps, a stencil, some washi tape (from Teippitarha), etc. Oh, and just in case you're wondering why I'm floating around in a bubble, let me just say 'pregnancy hormones'... ;)

Oliko ikävä?! :) No joo, enpä ihmettelisi, vaikka kukaan ei enää muistaisikaan minua saati pientä blogiani mutta täällä ollaan taas :) Blogissa on ollut melko hiljaista koko kesän (minkä kesän...?) ja osasyynä on ollut ihan vain kesä. Puutarhaa on laitettu (meillä on nyt vihdoin nurmikko, kukkapenkki ja muutama puukin on istutettu! Hurraa!), kotimaassa on matkusteltu ja mustikoita on poimittu omalta takapihalta (keskellä metsää asumisen pieniä etuja :) ). Kesästä on siis nautittu, minkä on ehditty mutta on blogihiljaisuuteen ollut muukin syy: surullisenkuuluisa mojo otti ja lähti kesän alussa enkä siis ole askarrellut oikeastaan mitään muutamaan kuukauteen. Tällä kertaa en tosin ole siitä niinkään stressannut, sillä mojottomuuteen on ollut mojova syy. Ai mikäkö? Hmm, valottaisiko tämä journal-sivu asiaa.... ;)
Well, did you miss me?! :) I wouldn't be surprised if no-one remembered me or my little blog-o anymore, but here I am *waving hand* :) My blog has been hibernating all summer (yes, pun intended!) partly because of the said summer (and I use the word 'summer' quite ironically here....). I have been busy 'building' our garden (we now have a lawn! And a flowerbed! And we've even planted some trees as well! Hooray!!), travelling a little around Finland with my hubby and the Cutest Little Boy in the World, and picking fresh wild blueberries from our backyard (that's one of the perks of living basically in the middle of the forest :) ). So, we have enjoyed the summer but there's another reason to my blogsilence as well: my mojo left me in the beginning of the summer which means I haven't really crafted for months. But this time I didn't really mind losing my mojo as there is a good reason for it. What's that, you might ask. Well, let's see if this art journal page can shed a little light on that.... ;)

The woman on my journal page is not me but some pretty pregnant lady from the H&M catalogue, hence the price tag on her belly :) )
Näppiksen takana meitä on tällä hetkellä siis kaksi, minä ja pieni masuasukki! :) Tätä uutta ihanaa ihmistä odotamme saapuvaksi ensi tammikuussa. Tähän asti kaikki on mennyt varsin hyvin ja toivottavasti jatko on samanlaista. Ja nyt se mojokin alkaa palailla, joten ehkä täällä tullaan näkemään hieman askartelujakin. Saatanpa vielä yllättää kaikki ja blogihypellä kommentoidenkin ;)
So yes, we are expecting our second child! :) This wonderful little one should see the light of day in late January 2013, so there's a few months to go still. So far everything's gone smoothly and I hope the rest of the journey will be plain sailing as well. And I think my mojo's making a return, too, so maybe you'll see some crafty things on the blog as well. You might even see me bloghopping now and leaving some comments, you never know ;)

Kesäkuuta mennään jo hurjaa vauhtia ja vasta nyt sain kalenterisivuni valmiiksi. Jotenkin se kuukauden vaihtuminen pääsee aina yllättämään.... ;) No, kysehän on kuitenkin Kate Cranenkalenterihaasteesta ja mukana ollaan, edelleen. En tiedä, oliko tälle(kään) sivulle sen kummempaa lähtöideaa kuin nuo keltaiset pallukat - olimme nimittäin toissapäivänä kävelyllä ja tuntui, että joka paikassa oli aivan mielettömän paljon ihania keltaisia voikukkia (niin, joidenkin mielestä roskakukkia, minun mielestäni kauniita...) ja halusin mahduttaa ne sivuuni jotenkin. Tätä sivua tehdessä minulla soi päässä koko ajan The Doorsin Love Street, joten ehkä se on sitten vaikuttanut sivuun muuten, mene ja tiedä :)
June seems to be racing by fast and I've only just finished my June page - oops! How come the turn of the month always comes so unexpectedly... ;) Well anyway, this is my June page for the calendar challenge hosted by the lovely Kate Crane. I don't know if I had any great idea for this page, except dandelions :) We went for a walk the other day and there were the gorgeous yellow faces of dandelions everywhere and I wanted to capture those somehow, hence the yellow circles for journaling. While I was making this page, I had 'Love Street' by The Doors playing in my head all the time, so maybe that influenced my page, too :)

Tuntuu, että olen viime aikoina urakoinut sen verran synttärikortteja, etten ole muuta ehtinyt askartelemaankaan. Nyt sain kuitenkin valmiiksi art journal -sivun - ja seuraavaksi saankin ruveta taas tekemään synttärikortteja! ;) Sivun tyttönen on aivan ihana Suzi Blu/Unity-leima nimeltään 'Love Yourself', johon olen tykästynyt aivan valtavasti. I feel like I've been up to my ears in birthday cards lately, haven't had a chance to art journal at all. Well, now I managed to finish this page in my art journal and guess what I'll be making next? Yes, some more birthday cards! ;D The girl on my page is a rubber stamp by Suzi Blu/Unity called 'Love Yourself' and I just love it, she's so beautiful. The other stamps I've used here are by the Paperbag Studios, Art Journey, and TPC Studio. Additional materials include some spray ink, some Golden Fluid acrylic paints, NeoColor II crayons, some paper tissue and some washi tape. And hopefully some thought behind it all! LOL! ;D

Toukokuun sivuni Kate Cranenkalenterihaasteeseen on tässä, mutta en ole erityisemmin tyytyväinen siihen. En oikeastaan edes tiedä, onko se valmis - tuntuu kuin siitä puuttuisi jotain mutta en tiedä, mitä. Mietin jo, tekisinkö koko sivun uusiksi mutta päätin antaa olla, tällä mennään. Sinänsä varmasti outo kysymys peripohojalaaselle mutta oikeastaan se kuitenkaan ei ole ;) Minä nimittäin useimmiten ajattelen englanniksi, kun askartelen (muulloinkin, mutta varsinkin kun askartelen) ja jotenkin liitän art journalingin englannin kieleen. Mutta onhan se toisaalta hassua kirjoittaa toisella kielellä kun omakin olisi :) Vaikkakin jos kirjoitan art journal -sivulleni suomeksi, tuntuu kuin kääntäisin omaa sisäistä puhettani. En tiedä, mihin lopputulokseen pähkäilyissäni tulin mutta tämä sivu nyt on suloisen sekamelskaisesti molemmilla kielillä!
If you don't like the colour pink, please don't look at the picture in this post - my art journal page is rather pink, I'd say! ;D The idea behind this page came to me as I was thinking about journaling in general: what 'should' be written on an art journal page and what shouldn't (or is there anything that you shouldn't write about), how should it be written (should you think that someone will/might read it too, should it be something that only you understand, should it be private at all), etc., and then I came to the question of language - what language should I use? Now that probably seems like a funny question for a native Finnish speaker but then again, it actually isn't. I do have a university degree in English language (although you probably would not guess it by the standard of my English - ha ha!) and for some reason I think in English when I craft (I think in English when I'm doing other stuff, too, but English really seems to be my 'crafting language' for some odd reason). I also associate art journaling with the English language. But in the end, what is the language I should art journal in?! Is it my native Finnish or is it my "crafty English"? I guess I didn't come to any kind of conclusion on that but at least I got a page out of it! Hee hee! A page written in both Finnish and English... ;D

Kuunvaihde tietää tietysti myös kalenterin sivun kääntämistä, joten tässäpä huhtikuun sivu. Kyse on taas tietysti Kate Cranen kalenterihaasteesta, lisätietoja löytyy Katen blogista. Alunperin en oikein tiennyt, mitä sivulle laittaisin, en saanut millään kiinni huhtikuusta vaikka kyseessä onkin varsin mukava kuukausi (mm. poikani syntymäkuukausi :) ). Lopulta rupesin vain laittamaan maalia sun muuta sivuun sen kummempia suunnittelematta ja jossain vaiheessa tajusin, että kevät itse asiassa tuntuu minusta juuri siltä, miltä tämä sivu näyttää - iloinen sekamelska kaikkea, hurjasti energiaa, värejä ja kaikkea kivaa :) Noiden tipujen inspiraationa toimi Cloth Paper Scissorsin tammi-helmikuun numerossa olleet 'word bird' -linnut.
First of the month brings a new page for the calendar challenge hosted by Kate Crane (please visit her blog for more information), this is my page for April. At first I wasn't sure what to put on my page, I didn't really get a feel of April although it is a great month (my son was born in April, for instance :) ). Then I just started adding paint on the page without really thinking, added layers and layers, and at some point I noticed that my page actually looks like how spring feels to me - a merry mess of everything buzzing with the sheer energy of life! :) So that's my theme for my April page. The little birdies were inspired by the word birds in the January/February issue of Cloth Paper Scissors.

Taas kerran puolivalmista näytille... Tämäkin on siis tekstiä vaille valmis art journal -sivu, lisään journaloinnin (lieneekö tuo sana..? ;D ) myöhemmin. Harmittaa, etten saanut kunnon kuvaa noista mustista maalijäljistä, ne ovat nimittäin (minulle uutta) Daler Rowneyn System3 Heavy Body -akryylimaalia, joka nimensä mukaisesti on paksua maalia. Sillä saa aika hienoja tekstuureja aikaan :)
Once again I'll show you something half finished as this is a page in my art journal but it is still missing the actual journaling bit. I'll add that later but will show you the page now ;) It's a pity I couldn't get a decent picture to show you the texture of the black paint I used. It's Daler Rowney's System3 Heavy Body acrylic paint which - as the name suggests - is really thick, heavy-bodied paint. The textures you can make with it are gorgeous :)

Kun olin kuvannut tuon yllä olevan sivuni, halusi pian 2-vuotias poikani selata art journaliani. Tekemäni sivut katsottuaan hän marssi hakemaan värikynärasiansa ja halusi tehdä oman sivunsa kirjaani :) Tällainen tuli hänen aukeamastaan. Hieno, vai mitä? :)
Earlier today when I had taken the photo of my page, my son (who's soon 2 years old) wanted to look at my journal. When he had seen all the pages in it, he promptly went and fetched his own crayons and wanted to make a page in my journal. This is his spread, gorgeous isn't it? :)

Tein tämän art journal -sivun joskus tammikuussa, mutta jostain syystä se on jäänyt bloggaamatta (ja päiväyskin siitä on unohtunut.... ;) ). Koitin saada sivuun hieman tekstuuria liimaamalla siihen paperisuikaleita, joiden päälle laitoin gesson ja maalit ja muut. Enempää tekstiä siinä ei ole, mutta minulle se kyllä kertoo tarinansa ;)
I finished this art journal page sometime in January but for some reason I've forgotten to blog it (and to date it... oops!). I tried to get some texture to the page by glueing strips of paper on it before applying gesso and paints and the rest. The only journaling there is are those three words ('what just happened?') but it speaks volumes to me ;)
