Balanssissa - Balanced

Korttileiri jatkuu ja tämän päivän videon aiheena oli sommittelu/tasapaino korteissa. Noita "tasapainoja" oli kolme ja nämä on nyt tehty 'radial balancen' mukaan. Tuolla kurssilla on oma bloginsa, jossa on galleria tehdyille korteille ja aion reippaasti linkittää nämäkin sinne vaikka en ole varma, ovatko nämä ihan sääntöjen mukaan tehty. Sääntönä nimittäin on, että korteissa on käytettävä viikon värejä ja jos kurkkaat edellistä postausta, niin huomaat, että eihän nämä ihan just yksi yhteen samoja sävyjä ole. Värit sinänsä ovat samat (liila, punainen/pinkki, keltainen, sininen ja valkoinen) mutta sävyt ovat täysin erit. En tiedä, miten tarkkoja näistä ovat mutta näinhän se kai selviää... ;)

Card Camp continues and the subject of today's video was balance in cards. Three different kinds of balance were mentioned and I made my cards using the radial balance. I will link my cards to the student gallery although I'm not sure these are acceptable... I don't know how closely the colours of the week have to be followed, see my previous post for the colour scheme and you'll notice that the colours I've used here aren't exactly the same tones as the colours of the week.  I do think they're the same colours, just different tones. Hope these will be accepted regardless...

Kortit ovat täsmälleen samanlaiset, vain eri väriset. Pohjan tein molempiin pyyhkimällä Distress Inkiä suoraan tyynystä paperille (vaaleammassa kortissa näkyy paremmin ne 'pyyhkimisjäljet'), jonka jälkeen embossasin Paperbag Studion Prestige-leiman valkoisella kahteen kertaan niin, että ne näyttävät muodostavan 'nauhan'. Hero Artsin Starburst Laceen laitoin sitten kolmea eri Distress Inkiä ja suihkin vettä päälle ja leimasin paperiin, jonka stanssasin Spellbindersilla. Keskustaksi laitoin timantin/helmen.

The cards are similar to each other, just the inks I've used are different. I made the blue base by sweeping some Distress Ink straight from the pad to the paper. Then I stamped and heat embossed Prestige stamp by Paperbag Studios with white embossing powder twice so that it looks like it's forming a band across the paper. I applied three different Distress Inks to a Hero Arts stamp (Starburst Lace) and misted some water on it and stamped it on paper. I then die cut the stamped image with a Spellbinders die and placed a rhinestone/a pearl to the centre.

Kesäleireilyä - Being on a summer camp

Mä olen kesäleirillä! Kypsässä kolmenkymmenen*kröhömjotainkröhöm* iässä otin ja toimitin itseni kuukauden mittaiselle kesäleirille :D Kyseessä ei onneksi ole mikään pakkopullaleiri vaan "korttileiri" netissä, Summer Card Camp, jota pitävät Jennifer McGuire ja Kristina Werner. Koko juttu vaikuttaa varsin mielenkiintoiselta ja hauskalta ja toivottavasti jotain tulee opittuakin ;)

I'm on a summer camp! At the ripe age of thirty*coughsomethingcough* I took and enrolled myself on a month long summer camp :D Luckily it's not any old boring camp but an online card camp called Summer Card Camp held by Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner. I'm so looking forward to the whole experience and I'm hoping I'll learn lots ;)

Tein tämän kortin leirin ekalla väriyhdistelmällä, joka oli varsin herkullisen kesäinen. Ihan tasan tarkkaan en värisävyjä kohdilleen saanut, mutta tämä oli lähin, johon pystyin. Leirin ensimmäisessä videossa Jennifer McG. teki ikkunakortin, jota melko tarkasti mukailin omassa kortissani. Sinisen kartongin kortin kannessa leimasin Hero Artsin Envelope Patternilla ja käytin VersaMarkia ja ikkunan stanssasin Spellbindersilla ja laitoin siihen muovin ja muoviin timantit (tosin vasta ihan viimeiseksi..). Kukka on Hero Artsin Small Sweet Petals, jonka embossasin valkoisella jauheella kartongille ja leikkasin irti. Doily kukan takana on stanssattu Papertrey Inkin Doily Details-stanssilla ja nappi ompi varastojen kätköistä. Teksti on Taitopuoti Paperinauhan setistä ja sen embossasin valkoisella jauheella kortin sisään niin, että se näkyy tuosta ikkunasta.

On this card I used the first colour combo of the Summer Camp. I didn't have exactly the right tones of the colours, but this was the closest I could do. I wanted to try a window card so I followed the card Jennifer McG. made in her video quite closely. I stamped the blue cardstock with Hero Arts' Envelope Pattern using VersaMark and diecut the oval window with a Spellbinders die and placed the acetate there, I placed the rhinestones on it the last. I heat embossed the flower (Hero Arts' Small Sweet Petals) with white embossing powder and cut it out. The doily behind the flower I diecut with a Papertrey Ink die. The button is from my stash. I stamped the sentiment (which is a poem in Finnish and goes something like "Sit down for a while dear friend/Put your feet up and take a deep sigh/Give yourself a hug and smile a little/be happy and content in this moment" - and sorry, couldn't translate it so that it'd rhyme ;) ) on the inside of the card and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.

Kortin sisäpuolella on siis vain sininen kartonki ja siinä tuo teksti. / On the inside of the card there's just the blue cardstock with the sentiment.

Nelikymppiset - 40th

Aikaisemmin tässä kuussa oli miehen työkaverin nelikymppiset ja meidät oli kutsuttu juhliin. Lahja ostettiin kimpassa miehen toisen työkaverin kanssa (lahja oli pullo suomalaista viskiä - en rehellisesti sanoen edes tiennyt, että sellaista on!) ja kortin teko jäi sitten minun vastuulleni. Miehen pyynnöstä käytin kortissa Art Impressionsin Normia, jonka väritin Distresseillä ja stanssasin Spellbindersilla niin, että Normin jalat jäivät tuon ympyrän ulkopuolelle. Tekstin Normin viereen tein Papertrey Inkin aakkosilla. Paperi on Cosmo Cricketin, käytin tässä paperin molempia puolia. Mies toivoi, että en käyttäisi kortissa ylenmäärin koristeita (mitä?! ei nappeja, ei kukkia, ei blingiä?! ;D ), joten laitoin tuohon papereiden rajalle vain palan aaltopahvia, jota olin hieman sutinut Distress Inkillä.

Hubby's work mate turned 40 earlier this month and we were invited to his birthday party. We bought the present together with another of hubby's work mates and I made the card. The stamped image is Norm by Art Impressions (hubby asked me to use it) and I coloured him (Norm, not the hubby! ;D ) with Distress Inks. I then die cut the stamped image with a Spellbinders die but left Norm's feet hanging out of the circle, and stamped the text next to Norm with Papertrey Ink alphabets. Hubby asked me not to use too many embellishments (what?! - no buttons, no flowers, no rhinestones?!?! ;D ) so I only used a piece of corrugated cardboard to which I applied some Distress Ink.

Sisäpuoltakin koristelin hieman. Leimasin onnea-tekstin Tim Holtzin Adage-lapun nurjalle puolelle ja mustetin reunoja ja alareunaan laitoin myös hieman aaltopahvia. Molemmat tekstileimat ovat Merjan ja Pammun seteistä.

I stamped the sentiment on the inside of the card (it says something like 'The statistics show that the more years you pile on, the older you'll live') and stamped the word 'Congrats' on the flip side of a Tim Holtz' Adage ticket and applied some ink on its edges. There's also some corrugated cardboard on the inside as well.

Kuvat ovat muuten hieman turhan sinisävyisiä (korttipohja oli oikeasti kermanvärinen), otin ne nopsaan huonossa valossa :-/ mutta toivottavasti niistä saa jonkinlaisen idean kortista.

Sorry about the bad piccies, they're a bit too blue (the card blank was actually cream coloured) but I had to photograph the card in a hurry in bad light :-/ Hope you can still get some kind of idea of what the card looked like.

Vintagea sydämellä - Vintage with a heart

Korteissa vintage on tyylinä sellainen, jota en erityisemmin koe hallitsevani. Halusin kuitenkin korkata uusia Crafty Individuals -leimojani ja osallistua Crafty Individualsin kesäkuun haasteeseen, aiheena on 'Vintage with a Heart' eli vintagea olla pitää jonkinlaisella sydämellä höystettynä, joten ei auttanut kuin yrittää jotain edes siihen suuntaan... Korttiin käytin Crafty Individualsin hurmaavaa leimaa ja Graphic45:n paperia, jossa on ne vaaditut sydämet. Paperin sutaisin gessolla ja leimasin osittain päälle Hero Artsin Graph Backgroundilla. Pientä Crafty Individualsin postileimaa käytin myös taustassa ja reunoille laitoin Adirondackin Paint Dabberia. Leimakuvan reunoille sudin myös gessoa ja nuo Tim Holtzin kiehkurat maalasin kultamaalilla. Kukat rullasin itse omin pikku kätösin kreppipaperista ja laitoin vielä hieman Sticklesiäkin päälle. Pitsiruusukkeen tein myös itse ja laitoin samaa pitsiä vielä kortin reunaankin. Lisäksi vielä helmi ja pari nappia. En tiedä, onko tämä nyt vintagea mutta tällä mennään! :)

I feel that vintage cards are difficult to make, however I wanted to try out some of my new Crafty Individuals stamps and take part in the challenge over at Crafty Individuals blog (my first time! :) ) and as the challenge was 'Vintage with a Heart', that's what I made! ;) I used a Crafty Individuals' stamp which I stamped with brown Versafine and applied some gesso on the edges. The paper is by Graphic45 and if you look close enough you'll see that  there are tiny hearts that form swirls on the paper. I applied some gesso on the paper, stamped part of it with Hero Arts' Graph Background and stamped a tiny Crafty Individuals stamp on it a couple of times. I also added some Adirondack Paint Dabber on the edges of the paper. I die cut the swirls with a Tim Holtz die and painted them with gold paint. The roses I made of white crepe paper and applied some Stickles on them. I also made the lace rosette from the same lace that I used on the edge of the card. And there you go, that's my take on the vintage with a heart theme :)

Hymyssä suin - With a smile on her face

Greeting Farmin leimat ovat jääneet jotenkin vähälle käytölle, joten olen yrittänyt nyt käyttää niitä(kin...) jonkin verran. Halusin tehdä pirteän onnittelukortin tytölle, joten mikäpä siihen paremmin sopisi kuin tämä tyttönen Susie Surprise -setistä - tykkään tuosta vallattoman iloisesta ilmeestä! :) Väritys taas Distress Inkeillä ja lisäksi hieman valkoista geelikynää siellä täällä. Paperit on October Afternoonia tavallisella kartongilla höystettynä ja koristeina on tähtiklemmari ja PTI:n kukkastansseilla tehdyt kukat.

I haven't used my The Greeting Farm stamps that much lately so I've been trying to mend my ways a little. I wanted to make a happy little card for a girl so I chose this girlie from the Susie Surprise set - I just love the expression on her face! :) I coloured her with Distress Inks and added some white gel pen here and there. The papers I used are by October Afternoon and I also used some basic red cardstock. I embellished the card with a star-shaped paperclip and some flowers made with PTI dies.

Yksinkertaisen kaunista - Simple and beautiful

Joskus leimasin on vain niin kaunis, että se ei kaipaa seurakseen oikeastaan mitään. Juuri sellainen on tämä Paperbag Studiosin Windsong, johon tuntui sopivan tämä PTI:n tekstileima kuin nenä päähän. Korttipohjan tähän taittelin kraft-kartongista (kortti aukeaa ylöspäin), leimat leimasin ruskealla Versafinella, narua varten tein pienet reiät leimakuvan molemmin puolin ja naruun laitoin vielä metallisen perhosen. Sitten vain naru rusetille ja päihin solmut. Siinä se.

Sometimes a stamped image is just so beautiful that it doesn't need much else to 'keep it company'. Windsong by Paperbag Studios gives such an image and the sentiment by PTI seemed to fit it to a tee. I folded some kraft cardstock to make the card base (the card opens upwards), stamped the image and the sentiment with brown Versafine, made tiny holes on each side of the image for the twine, added a metal butterfly to the twine and then just tied it to form a bow. That was it.

Iloa päivääsi - Fill this day with joy

Tähän korttiin tuli käytettyä paria tämänhetkistä lempparia, eli Heroja ja Papertrey Inkiä. Leimasin kukan (HA Sweet Petals) BasicGreyn paperille ja leikkasin irti, lehdet leimasin ja stanssasin PTI:n Turning a New Leaf -setillä. Doily kukan takana on niinikään PTI:tä, Delightful Doilies -setin leima ja stanssi. Leimasin tuon doilyn kirkkaanvalkoiselle paperille mutta vanhensin sen sitten Distress Inkillä, jotta se istuisi paremmin korttiin. Taustan leimasin Hero Artsin Ledgerillä vanhasta vihkosta otetulle karkealle kraft-tyyliselle paperille ja leikkasin hieman pienemmäksi. Teksti on PTI:n Everyday Button Bits -setistä - en yleensä käytä englanninkielisiä tekstileimoja, mutta nämä viime aikoina tekemäni englanninkieliset kortit matkaavat tätini mukana Amerikkaan hänen käyttävikseen. (Asian sivusta hieman, mutta kaipaisin tällaisia Papertrey Inkin tyylisiä tekstileimoja suomeksikin, tällaisia "yleisiä mukavuuksia" kauniilla ja tarpeeksi pienellä fontilla, tulisivat tarpeeseen ;) ). Koristeena vielä vanha nappi ja siinä naru.

This card holds a couple of my current favourites, namely Hero Arts and Papertrey Ink. The flower is Sweet Petals by Hero Arts and I stamped it on some BasicGrey paper and cut it out. I stamped and die cut the leaf with Papertrey Ink's Turning a New Leaf set and the doily is also made with PTI gear, namely with a stamp and a die from the Delightful Doilies set. I stamped it on pure white paper but then aged it with Distress Ink so that it'd suit the rest of the card better. The stamp I used on the background is Ledger by Hero Arts, I stamped it on a page from my old notebook and cut it slightly smaller, the paper is quite coarse kraft style paper so it gives a bit texture to the background (that probably won't show in the piccie but it is there ;) ). The sentiment comes from the PTI set Everyday Button Bits; I very rarely use English sentiments on my cards but lately I have made a few cards with them for my aunt to use in the US (ha! my cards are conquering the world!! ;D ). The button on the card is an old one from my stash as is the thread.
